Chain drives are the future. The experts at Schaeffler’s Automotive Aftermarket division are convinced of this, and expect a significant increase in the share of chain-driven engines in new vehicles from now until 2030. With over 100 years of experience in chain drives, the company is not only one of the largest original equipment manufacturers, but also supplies the independent spare parts market with a wide-ranging portfolio of repair solutions for chain-driven timing drives. The Aftermarket specialist’s latest portfolio enhancement is a new timing chain KIT under the INA brand for vehicles of the VW Group (VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda) with 1.4-liter TSI engines.
Since all parts and components in the timing drive must be perfectly matched together for smooth engine operation, with absolute synchronous interlocking, the complete system should always be replaced during repair. “The INA Timing Chain KIT contains more than 20 components – and exactly those parts of the timing drive that are needed for holistic and long-lasting repair,” says Maik Evers, Director Program Management Extended Products, Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket. “Our repair solution saves garage employees valuable time in identifying the necessary spare parts and gives them safety when installing them.” After replacement, they can be sure of an optimal interplay of the individual components in the timing drive, and that follow-up damage will be avoided.
Besides timing chains, sprockets, chain tensioners, slide and guide rails, the repair solution is also delivered with all the necessary gaskets and mounting parts. In addition, the KIT contains the camshaft phasing unit and special guide pins, which make the work of repair much easier. For optimal lubrication, every INA Timing Chain KIT comes with the chain additive “Chain Protect,” which was developed together with Liqui Moly. This reduces running-in wear after chain drive replacement by up to 20 percent, and helps to increase the service life of the chain drive.
